An acquirer terminated your relationship.
A condition described in one of the MATCH reason codes — such as excessive chargebacks or bankruptcy — was present when your account closed.
Leave solutions on. Some processors and acquirers let merchants continue refunding transactions even after an account is closed, so you might want to keep resolving disputes via prevention alerts and RDR — for two reasons. First, RDR and alert fees are usually cheaper than chargeback fees, so prevention solutions can help you save money. Second, the more chargebacks you receive, the longer your acquirer will hold funds in a reserve account. If you can continue preventing chargebacks, you might get your reserve funds back quicker.
Turn solutions off. Chargebacks aren’t always the cause of account closure. Maybe you just don’t want to use that particular merchant account any more. Or your acquirer changes its risk appetite and can no longer support your industry. If risk thresholds aren’t a concern, then you probably don’t need to continue receiving alerts and RDR cases. You can cancel your solutions and save on fees.

Be mindful of chargeback thresholds.

Implement chargeback prevention solutions.

  • Order Insight and Visa CE 3.0 allow you to share business and transaction information with a cardholder’s bank in real-time so that when a transaction is disputed, the bank can work on your behalf to resolve the customer complaint.
  • RDR is a refund tool that lets you set up criteria for disputes you are willing to accept liability for — such as cases with certain reason codes or transactions over a given dollar amount. If a dispute meets your criteria, your bank will automatically refund the transaction.
  • Chargeback prevention alerts provide advanced notice when a transaction has been disputed so that you can proactively work to resolve the issue — such as refunding the customer. Once you take action, you can easily let the issuer know a chargeback is no longer needed.
