ABA Number

DEFINITION

ABA number

Glossary  /  ABA number

An ABA number, or routing number, is a nine-digit code created by the American Bankers Association to identify financial institutions. ABA numbers are used during electronic transactions — ACH transfers, wire transfers, and direct deposits — to route funds from one bank account to another. ABA numbers are used primarily in the United States banking system.

When setting up your U.S. merchant account, you’ll need to provide your business bank’s ABA number for settlements. This detail ensures that funds from credit and debit card purchases are deposited into the correct account.

Errors with ABA numbers can delay payouts, lead to compliance issues, or result in failed funding. AltoPay meticulously reviews business details during the underwriting process to prevent interruptions in your cash flow and payment operations.
